EPAC Dancer Devin Spear's Memory Lives On

By Faith Jessie.
Members of the Endicott Performing Arts Center spread lots of love for one dancer who fell victim to a senseless act of violence.

The Devin Spears Talent Showcase took place at EPAC Saturday night and brought out many community members who watched performances in memory of Devin.

Devin joined the EPAC family in 2001 and participated in the Kids Theater workshop. She landed the leading role of "Dorthy" in the 2001 EPAC kids' theater production of "The Wiz".

In July of 2002, Devin and her mother Valerie were murdered at their Binghamton home.

This event is benefiting the Devin Spears Memorial Scholarship Fund, that EPAC established in Devin's memory.

"This event is one of those events that is really rewarding in the sense that it's for the community, it comes out of the community. It says a lot about the arts in this community, and just how overwhelming the support is," says Joe Foti, business manager for the Endicott Performing Arts Center.

All proceeds of the event are going to the scholarship fund. Since 2004, 74 scholarships totaling over $36,700 have been awarded.
