By Kerry Longobucco.
A Cortland man who killed his teenage girlfriend was sentenced Thursday to 20 years to life in prison.

Michael Hammond pleaded guilty to killing Aimee Leland, 16, last May at her home on Lincoln Avenue in Cortland. Police say Leland, a student at Cortland High School, was stabbed to death.

At the time of his arrest, Hammond also faced three counts of burglary in the first degree and five counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Hammond admitted to second-degree murder as part of a plea deal.
