National 2-1-1 Day Raises Awareness of Helpline

February 11th is the United Way's official "2-1-1 Day" in recognition of its helpline number that connects local residents to program and service assistance.

The Susquehanna River Region 2-1-1 call centers assist people in Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego and Tioga Counties. Call specialists help callers with concerns on things like tax preparation, employment services and mental health assistance.

"I celebrate 2-1-1. I've seen what it can do for communities. I think it's a vital piece of our community, to get people to where they need to go," said 2-1-1 director Candace Gregory.

Each year, the region's 2-1-1 call center assists more than 50,000 local residents. The 24 hour a day, seven day a week service is free and confidential. For more information, visit www.HelpMe211.org.
