Cortland County Man Arrested for Meth Manufacturing

By FOX 40 Staff.
A Cortland County man, who police say was in possession of items used in meth manufacturing, has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies. The resulting investigation left neighbors unable to enter their homes for 21 hours.

Tuesday evening, patrol officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-family residence located at 5026 Telephone Road, in the Town of Taylor for a drug investigation. A resident reported possible drug activity to the responding officers.

Christopher C. Baker, 26, was found to be in possession of several items used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine both inside and outside of the residence. All the occupants from the two-family house were evacuated as a safety precaution.

Investigators of the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office contacted the New York State Police CCSERT (Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team) to assist at the scene with the search and removal of the hazardous materials that are associated with the manufacturing of methamphetamine.

The Cincinnatus Fire Department, Cincinnatus Fire and Rescue, along with Cincinnatus Ambulance were called to the scene to stand by during the search and removal of the hazardous items. Due to the time of the day of the initial call, the amount of evidence that was collected, and responding NYSP CCSERT members getting to the scene, the residents were asked to make arrangements to spend the night with family members until they were able to return to the residence Wednesday afternoon.

The total time the residents were evacuated before being allowed to return to their apartments was nearly 21 hours. During this entire time the scene was secured by members of the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.

Christopher C. Baker was charged with the following:

Felony Criminal Possession Of A Controlled Substance, Felony Unlawful Manufacturing of Methamphetamine, Felony Unlawful Disposal Of Methamphetamine Laboratory Material, Misdemeanor Criminal Possession Of A Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument.

He was arraigned in Taylor Town Court and sent to the Cortland County Jail on $50,000 cash - $100,000 bond. He is due back in Taylor Town Court on February 17, 2016 at 6:00 PM.
