Bearcats picked 6th in preseason poll, but like the underdog role

After going 6-11 a year ago the Bearcats women's lacrosse team was picked to finish sixth out of the seven teams in the America East in the preseason poll. While the 13 wins in the last two seasons are the winningest stretch in program history, there is still a ways to go for BU.

Even so, whether you're picked first or last in the preseason poll most coaches and players will tell you they don't put much stock in it. The Bearcats sure don't, but they're ready to embrace the underdog role if someone else does.

"If you're going to look at us as underdogs and that's good for us. If you don't want to play your best, you don't want to go as hard as possible against us, that's good for us," said Allie Rodgers, senior captain, defense. "We're going to take advantage of that and hopefully push it out and get the win. It's just motivation. We want to strive to be better than the rest of the teams in the conference and we're making our way up there for sure."

"For us it's what we're doing in each and every moment," said Head Coach Stephanie Allen. "We're trying not to look too far down the road. I think in years past we've put a lot of stock in that conference play or making it to postseason and to be honest we've really scratched that this year and we're focused on practice by practice and game by game."

BU opens the season on Sunday in the Carrier Dome against #3 ranked Syracuse.
