Sales Tax Revenue Drops in Broome, 29 Other Counties

By Jason Weinstein.
30 counties in New York, including Broome, Tioga, Chenango, and Delaware saw a drop in sales tax collections in 2015.

The drop in Broome County was two percent, or roughly $2.5 million. Delaware County saw about $1.3 million less in sales tax, with Tioga and Chenango Counties seeing under a million fewer dollars in sales tax.

Broome County's budget director Marie Kalka said the county did see growth of 1.4 percent in the fourth quarter of 2015, a trend she hopes continues into 2016. She pointed to the drop in fuel and energy prices as a drag on sales tax.
