New Berlin Police Officer Struck By Drunk Driver

A New Berlin police officer was injured after his patrol car was struck by a drunk driver Monday night, according to New York State Police.

Nicholas C. Degristina, 23, of Burlington Flats, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, and issued other traffic tickets. Troopers said his blood alcohol content was .14%.

The crash happened just before 7:30 p.m. Monday on County Route 18 at State Route 80 in the Town of Pittsfield. Troopers say Degristina was driving south on Route 18 when he failed to stop at a stop sign, and attempted to turn left onto Route 80 eastbound. He crashed into a New Berlin Police patrol car that was traveling westbound on State Highway 80.

The officer was transported to the Chenango Hospital for cuts to his head and hands. Degristina was not injured.

He was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Pittsfield Court on February 15, 2016.
