Mayor recognizes Catholic School Week

The City of Binghamton is recognized "Catholic Schools Week" Tuesday with a flag raising ceremony. Students from Seton Catholic Central and St. James Middle School joined Mayor Rich David and Broome County Catholic School President, Richard Bucci to celebrate the occasion. This year's Catholic Schools Week theme is "Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.

"There's a network of 7,000 schools in the United States that span the nation, educating over 2.1 million students, and here in Broome County, the four schools educate approximately 1,000 students so the role we play in the education mosaic here is pivitol." said former Binghamton Mayor and President of Catholic Schools of Broome County Richard Bucci.

David also noted the role that catholic schools have played in Binghamton's history and development. He said both Binghamton's Fire and Police Chiefs graduated from Catholic Central Schools.
