State Senate Passes Bill to Legalize MMA

By Jason Weinstein.
New York is one step closing to possibly allowing professional Mixed Martial Arts fights.

Monday afternoon the State Senate passed a bill to legalize MMA for a seventh consecutive year. Previous bills to legalize the sport have failed in the Assembly. New York is the only state in the nation that prohibits professional MMA events.

Recently Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo said she believed the votes are there to pass the bill for good. A spokesperson from her office today said the Assembly will likely take up the issue as part of the budget negotiations. A state budget is due April 1st.
