Johnson City Standoff Ends in Arrest

By FOX 40 Staff.
A female victim and a small child were held against their will in Johnson City early Friday morning, leading to a standoff that ended in an arrest.

Johnson City police received a report that a female resident had texted a neighbor to call the police for an unknown situation just after 3:30 on Friday. Officers responded and determined that there was a female in the apartment, but she would not answer the door.

Investigators researched the history of the address, and discovered the resident has active felony warrants. Because police believed the resident in question may be holding others against their will, Metro SWAT was activated and responded.

Main Street traffic between Floral and Lester Avenues was temporarily shut down, and neighboring apartments were evacuated for safety precautions. A SWAT team negotiator was able to get the female victim and a small child safely out of the apartment.

The suspect, Alpha T. Ketchatcham, 27, failed to comply with commands to surrender himself. At about 6:54 a.m., SWAT entry was made into the apartment and found the suspect hiding within the kitchen sink cabinet. Ketchatcham was taken into custody without force or injury.

An investigation determined that the suspect was holding the female against her will, and attempted to prevent her from calling the police by threatening her and causing physical injury to her. The child was uninjured.

Previously wanted on the following Johnson City Warrants:

• Felony Arrest Warrant – Robbery
• Arrest Warrant – Criminal Mischief
• Bench Warrant – Endangering the Welfare of a Child / Harassment

New Charges stemming from Friday morning's incident:
