Man who Crashed Vehicle Admitted he was on Heroin

Police say a man who drove into a pole in the Town of Union Thursday admitted he was on heroin.

The Broome County Sheriff’s office responded to a report of a vehicle that crashed into a pole outside the Park Manor Plaza, 800 Hooper Rd. in the Town of Union.

Authorities say Shawn D Bensley Jr., 18, of Johnson City, had driven his 2014 Chevrolet into a pole on the sidewalk outside one of the stores in the plaza. Further investigation found that Mr. Bensley admitted that he had used heroin prior to the accident.

With the assistance of a Drug Recognition Expert, Shawn D Bensley was charged with DWAI- drugs. Bensley was issued a ticket returnable to the town of Union court at a later date.
