NY Attorney General Warns of IRS Scam

By Jason Weinstein.
New York's Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is warning about an IRS phone scam that is targeting the elderly, students, and first-generation Americans.

The scammer will call about a past due tax balance and say if it isn't paid immediately the person will be arrested. The scammer will also ask for payment with a Green Dot Money Card or Western Union MoneyGram.

You should know the IRS and legitimate government agencies never demand payment over the phone. Plus, never give out personal information when you receive an unsolicited call, and feel free to say, 'no' an hang up when receiving an unsolicited call.

If you feel like you've been contacted by this scam you can www.ag.ny.gov or call 1-800-771-7755.
