New Broome County Fire Coordinator Named

Broome County has a new fire coordinator.

Tom Vroman, who has been serving as acting Fire Coordinator, will take the position on full-time. He took over when Brett Chellis left the position in the summer of 2015. The legislature made the Fire Coordinator position full-time this year. County Executive Debbie Preston said an increased number of disasters made that move necessary. Vroman has served as Deputy Fire Coordinator for 35 years.

"I’ve come up through the ranks from when the Fire Coordinator position was first created, back in 1979 or 1980.We built a Dispatch Center.
And now we’ve got a Dispatch Center that encompasses fire service, EMS, and law enforcement.
So I’ve seen a lot of changes, and all of it for the good. " said Vroman.

Vroman says future plans as Fire Coordinator include revising the Broome County Fire Mutual Aid Plan and upgrading to a new radio system through the county.
