Ellis Pleads Not Guilty to Criminally Negligent Homicide
By FOX 40 Staff. Raymond K. Ellis, Sr. pleaded not guilty to Criminally Negligent Homicide after the death of Maryanne Whitman who overdosed on drugs that police say were sold to her by Ellis.
Ellis, 65 of Newark Valley, is charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, and Tampering with Physical Evidence. A Broome County Grand Jury handed up an indictment of Ellis on January 15th.
Ellis was arrested January 8th for selling drugs to a woman who was found unresponsive at the Skylark Motel last month.
An autopsy conducted Whitman, who died at the motel, showed that she died of a drug overdose.
Investigation into this case led Vestal Police to Ellis who was arrested for his role in providing drugs to the victim.
