Fire on Park Avenue in Binghamton Damages Home, Blocks Off Street

Reports of a house fire on Binghamton's south side came in around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

The house located at 106 Park Avenue in Binghamton was fully engulfed in flames.

According to scanner reports, by 9:20 PM, crews had the fire contained and were putting out hot spots, particularly around the roof line.

No word yet on what caused the fire. Neighbors said the house was vacant.

"We've lived here for about 6 months," said next-door neighbor Gregory Tondee.

"And that house has always been vacant since we moved in. It's a little bit strange that it started out of nowhere."

Gregory said his partner saw a man running out of the house earlier Wednesday and threatened to call police.

When emergency crews arrived to put out the fire, he and his partner were told to get out of their house and move their cars.

Portions of Park Avenue were closed off to traffic for about three hours. FOX 40 will bring you an update on the investigation as more information becomes available.
