Feds Will Investigate Fatal Danby Standoff

By Jason Weinstein.
The Department of Justice will review the December, 2014 standoff in Danby that included the death of 37-year-old David Cady.

The 61-hour standoff began on December 30th of 2014. According to the Ithaca Voice a Tompkins County official told the Legislature that the Department of Justice approved the request to have it conduct an independent review.

Police say Cady had fired a single shot that struck the ground near officers when they attempted to take him into custody. Because he was armed, officials did not enter his house, resulting in the standoff. But the standoff ended three days later after police tore away the walls with an armored vehicle and Cady was found dead due to a self inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
