Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebrations For You

Monday marks a day of honor to Martin Luther King Jr. A man who was instrumental in the Civil Rights Movement for not only African Americans but for all people of color in the United States.

NAACP of Broome and Tioga County will hold their annual MLK Jr. Day Celebration at East Middle School. The theme of this year's celebration is 'Youth Empowerment". The event is open to the public and begins at 1:00pm.

A march will take place Monday at 6:00pm starting at the Martin Luther King Jr. Statue on Court St. near the bridge and ending at the Salvation Temple Church. A service will be held at 6:30pm with remarks from city leaders and a key note speaker. Refreshments will follow the service. Members of the community are encouraged to participate in the march.

The National Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service also takes place Monday. It will bring out hundreds to help with a variety of projects around the community.

Project sites include:
-The Endicott Performing Arts Center (EPAC)
-The Roberson Museum and Science Center
-The Johnson City Senior Center
-NAACP of Broome and Tioga County's Annual MLK Jr. Day Celebration at East Middle School
-Center for Technology and Innovation
-United Way of Broome County/ Verde View Equestrian Center
