Delaware County Public Health reports that a raccoon found in the Town of Hamden has tested positive for rabies.
No human exposures to the animal and contagious disease have been reported. A total of three animals tested positive for rabies in 2015 with Delaware County Public Health Services. This is the first positive case in Delaware County for 2016.
Once infected, there is a 100 percent fatality rate when left untreated. This statistic includes human. It is recommended that you vaccinate pets and livestock.
