Crown Holdings to Bring 160+ Jobs to the Southern Tier

Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) has announced that Crown Holdings will invest $132 million in a new manufacturing facility in the Southern Tier.

According to the Governor’s office, the new facility will create more than 160 jobs. This would mark the largest investment by Crown Holdings in the U.S. in more than 20 Years.

On Sunday, Governor Cuomo announced Crown Holdings, Inc., a global metal packaging technology company, will invest $132 million to build its first new manufacturing facility in the United States in more than 20 years. The company’s new operations, which will be located in Tioga County, will create more than 160 new jobs in the Southern Tier.

The company’s new facility will be located on Berry Road in the Town of Nichols. Crown Holdings will invest $132.8 million to build the new two-line beverage can manufacturing facility, and create at least 164 new jobs by 2018. Crown’s presence in New York also provides the potential for further development in the Southern Tier.

“Smart investments in advanced manufacturing are driving growth in the Southern Tier and further cementing New York’s position as a global leader in 21st-century technology and innovation,” Governor Cuomo said. “This new facility will create good-paying jobs in the Southern Tier and will help move the region forward.”

“We are very excited to be able to further expand the company’s operations in the northeast United States, and we are pleased to be working closely in partnership with New York’s Empire State Development, Tioga County, the Town of Nichols and NYSEG to establish this best-in-class facility,” Djalma Novaes, President of Crown’s Americas Division said.

Now, residents of a county that's faced years of economic hardship have more than 160 new reasons to smile.

"Between Tioga Downs, our new Owego Gardens housing, and Crown Cork and Seal, we love the opportunity," Martha Sauerbrey, chair of the TIoga County Legislature, said. "We love the good news. It feels wonderful to have some good things coming our way."

"So often, we lose our young people. We lose our families to -- they have to go where the jobs are," LeeAnn Tinney, director of Economic Development and Planning for Tioga County, said. "This is saying to them, we want you to stay here. Here's an opportunity for you to stay here."
