Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Johnson City Shooting

By Kerry Longobucco, Faith Jessie, Brianna Case.
A Massachusetts man is under arrest after a shooting early Sunday morning in Johnson City.

Police arrested Franciso J. Maysonet, 29, of Turner Falls, MA, for allegedly shooting a man and fleeing the scene.

Johnson City police responded to the scene, outside of the Oasis, a restaurant/bar on Harry L. Drive, at approximately 1:38 a.m.

Upon arriving to the scene of the shooting, authorities say a 44-year-old man was transported to Wilson Medical Center to be treated for multiple gun wounds in critical condition. The victim is expected to survive.

The suspect fled the scene on foot, but was quickly located in the area after his description was broadcast over the scanner to Broome County Sheriff's deputies and New York State Police. He was taken into custody without incident.

Investigators say though Maysonet is a Massachusetts resident, his pregnant girlfriend lives in this area.

He is charged with attempted murder in the second degree, and criminal use of a firearm in the first degree. He plead not guilty to those charges. Maysonet is being held in the Broome County Jail without bail.

Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell (R) says the weapon used in the shooting is still missing.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should contact the Johnson City Police Division at 607-798-9318.
