B-Sens Cannot Finish Late Game Comeback

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators had their five-game home win streak snapped after they fell 2-1 to the Rochester Americans. The Amerks managed to hang onto an early two-goal advantage while Nathan Lieuwen made 37 saves to give the visitors the win.

Rochester grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the opening 4:53 of the first period thanks in part to a pair of power-play strikes. Bobby Sanguinetti notched his fourth goal of the season just three seconds into the Amerks' first power-play chance before Dan Catenacci tallied his fifth of the year just shy of the five-minute mark of the period. Rochester held onto their two-goal lead despite being outshot over the first 20 minutes of play after Lieuwen stopped all 13 Binghamton shots. Chris Driedger allowed two goals on 11 shots faced.

The B-Sens outshot the Amerks 14-10 over the middle frame but failed to solve Lieuwen. Driedger played a solid 20 minutes to hold Rochester 's lead in tact as the teams went to the final intermission with the score remaining 2-0.

Buddy Robinson cut the lead to 2-1 when he tipped home his seventh goal of the year off a shot from Michael Kostka 13:46 into the final period, but that was as close as the home team would get. Lieuwen stopped 10 of 11 shots faced in the final period to earn the victory.

Cal O’Reilly led the Amerks with two assists while Driedger stopped 22 of 24 shots in the losing effort.
