High-Speed Internet Expansion For New York State

By Faith Jessie.
If you can't get access to high-speed internet, that is most likely going to change soon.

Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) announced the 10th proposal of his 2016 agenda Friday and it is to expand and improve access to high speed-internet statewide.

The New York Public Service Commission voted to approve the merger of Time Warner Cable and Chart Communications Friday. They say this merger will improve broadband availability for millions of New Yorkers.

The proposal outlines plans the will require Charter to install line extensions that will expand high-speed broadband to unserved and underdesrved homes and businesses.

It will also require Charter to create a new low-income broadband program for 700,000 low-income households. Another requirement is to provide free connections and on-going broadband service to 50 community centers such as schools and libraries.
