Impact of URI Win on Local Food and Agricultural Industries

Posted:
How will $100 million of the New York Upstate Revitalization Initiative (URI) affect local food and agricultural industries?

That was the topic of Thursday's SUNY Business and Education Cooperative of the Southern Tier, also known as SUNY BEST.

The event was hosted at Binghamton University's Downtown Center. Officials say the URI will help the region transform into a world-recognized leader in agriculture. This is to be done through the growth of processing, distribution and agriculture and food production across the region.

Officials add that the agricultural sector alone has pledged almost 3,000 new jobs in the Southern Tier for agricultural expansion.

While the mix of projects are being strategically planned, experts say they are looking for the public's input on how the money should be spent. Contacting a city representative is the best way to voice your opinion, according to these experts.
