While many think of December 25th as Christmas Day, members of the Russian Orthodox Church celebrated the holiday today.
On Thursday, hundreds of churchgoers attended a morning service at St. Mary's Orthodox Church in Endicott. The church celebrates the holy day according to the Julian calendar. On this calendar, Christmas falls on January 7th. While the date may be different, the message of the holiday stays the same.
"We have a really wonderful time and it's our special way of showing our devotion," said Father Michael Kleban.
Thursday's service included singing, communion and prayers. Afterward, the church held a celebration for the congregation in honor of the holiday.
