Support for Families Suffering Loss Due to Overdose

By Jason Weinstein.
Saying it's meeting a tragically growing need, Lourdes Hospital is offering a support group for those who are grieving a substance related death.

Officials say the heroin epidemic has spurred the need. The six-week support group will meet each Monday beginning on January 18th from 5pm to 6:30pm. The group will be led by certified social workers and address the issues associated with this type of grief.

"There are unique challenges and emotions to losing someone to overdose. There's stigma, there's shame. There's also a lot of anger. Some of these things are not the type of things they can discuss around other people or in other groups," said Marie Halecki, clinical social worker at Lourdes.

Registration is required to join the group. You should call 607-584-9160 to register.
