Pair Charged with Stealing Thousands From Public Departments

Two women who allegedly stole thousands of dollars from two different departments appeared in court Wednesday afternoon.

The defendants, 54 year old Linda Vail of Fenton and 48 year old Laura Landers of Johnson City were both arraigned in the Town of Conklin court.

Vail pleaded not guilty to stealing more than 12,000 dollars from the Town of Vestal court when she was Court Clerk between January 2010 and December 2011.

Landers pleaded not guilty to stealing nearly eight thousand dollars from the Nanticoke Fire Department.

Both are charged with grand larceny in the third degree.

Broome County District Attorney, Steve Cornwell said, "If people haven't done anything wrong, then they don't have anything to worry about. But, if they have, you'll see some arrests soon."

Cornwell said this is the first in a series of upcoming arrests stemming from his creation of the Public Integrity Unit which is focusing on violations of public trust.
