James, Albrecht shine for Bearcats in non-conference finale

VESTAL, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Alyssa James finished with 23 points, nine rebounds and eight blocks and senior guard Kim Albrecht scored 20 points, powering Binghamton (5-8) to a 73-44 victory over Misericordia (3-9) in a non-conference women's basketball game on Monday night at the Events Center. With the victory, the Bearcats head into America East play with a perfect record in their five non-conference home games this season.

James reached the 20-point mark in scoring for the third time this season. In addition, her eight blocks was just one rejection away from the school record she set against Xavier back on Nov. 28. For the season, James is now averaging 17.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and a conference best 3.1 blocks per game.

Albrecht, meanwhile, drained a career-high five three-point field goals in just seven attempts from beyond the arc. She also added six rebounds, which was just one board away from her career high (which she has reached three times).

James and Albrecht are the first Bearcat duo to score at least 20 points in the same game since Sherae Swinson (21) and Jasmine Sina (20) against New Hampshire on Jan. 17, 2015.

"We are really happy to close out our non-conference schedule with a win, going 5-0 at home so far," head coach Linda Cimino said. "It's something that we can definitely build on for the future and we are looking forward to conference play."

It was also a special night for freshman forward Rebecca Carmody, who chipped in 13 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals. Her twin sister Rachel started for Misericordia and finished with five points and four rebounds.

"The Carmody family is such a great family and Bill and Colleen are such nice people," Cimino said. "Today was a special day for them. Their whole high school team was here and we let them take a photo on the court after the game. I got the chills because I have a twin sister and I know what it is like to compete against her. I am really glad Rebecca and her family got to share that moment together."

Sophomore guard Imani Watkins added eight points, four rebounds and a game-high six assists. She entered the game tied for third in the America East with 5.1 assists per game.

The Bearcats shot 48 percent for the game, connecting on 30 of their 62 field goal attempts. Led by Albrecht, they also went 6-for-11 from three-point range (55 percent).

Binghamton begins conference play against Stony Brook on Wednesday at noon.

NOTES: Albrecht has now reached the 20 point mark in scoring four times during her career … in the last three games, Carmody has averaged 10.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
