By Fox 40 News Staff. Governor Cuomo signed an executive order to protect the homeless from the winter weather Sunday.
The order will ensure that homeless individuals are directed to a shelter when temperatures fall below 32 degrees. It also requires homeless shelters to extend their hours so that those without shelter can remain indoors.
The state will assist local social service districts that are lacking facilities, resources or expertise. The report states that this is being done to prevent hypothermia, serious injury, and deaths that can be caused due to inclement winter weather.
