A Jump Start on a Healthy 2016 for YMCA

By Jason Weinstein.
150 runners got a head start on a healthy 2016 at Otsiningo Park with the YMCA Resolution 5K.

The event is a fundraiser which brought in about $5,000. It also coincides with the YMCA's Open House. Runners enjoyed music, raffles, and a New Year's Eve Photo booth. They also had some brisk, but still warmer-than-average temperatures for the run.

"This is my first and people are saying this is balmy weather compared to what we've had in the past. It's a great opportunity for people to come out and get ready for the New Year," said Ron Smith, Executive Director of the YMCA of Broome County.

"I haven't been doing distance running for a few years and I'm training for the Seneca Seven and the Bridge Run. So I thought, 'What a great way to get started,'" said runner Jennifer King.

Runners could also look into adopting a new friend for 2016. The Humane Society of Broome County had an information table at the run.
