Conklin Car Dealership Worker Accused of Faking Theft

An employee of a local car dealership has been arrested reporting a robbery that police say did not happen.

Binghamton Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at Joe Guardi Auto Sales, located at 245 Conklin Avenue, on Saturday around 8:00 a.m. An employee, Harry Johnson, Jr., 41, stated that he was opening the store when he was approached by three men wearing masks and brandishing guns. Johnson stated that the males forced their way into the building, and took an unknown amount of money.

Upon further investigation and interview of Johnson, Binghamton Police Detectives determined that a robbery did not occur, and the incident had been falsely reported.

Johnson was charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident and Grand Larceny. He was arraigned in City Court and remanded to Broome County Jail.
