By FOX 40 Staff.
A homeless man in Waverly has been arrested and charged with felony burglary and assault charges.

On Monday, Waverly Police responded to a 911 call on Howard Street in Waverly for a violation of an order of protection. According to police, the suspect, Jason M. Mertzig, 35, forced his way into an apartment by kicking in the front door, entered a bedroom, and assaulted a female victim with a pocket knife. Mertzig then fled on foot.

Police located Mertzig in a yard of a nearby house.

Mertzig was arrested and charged with several felonies including burglary and assault. He was arraigned in the Village of Waverly Justice Court Monday night.

Police say he was uncooperative during the arraignment and was sent to jail with no bail. The female victim received non-life threatening injuries to her hand as a result of the assault.
