Binghamton Selected to Host N.Y. H.S. Basketball Championship Tournament

Thousands of basketball fans and families will be headed to Binghamton to watch the state's most talented basketball players compete. On Friday, the city of Binghamton was selected to host New York's state boys basketball championship tournament from 2017-2019.

New York State Public High School Athletic Association(NYSPHSAA), the committe that organizes high school athletics throughout New York, announced the decision, breaking a more than three-decade-run for the city of Glens Falls.

“Glens Falls has certainly done an amazing job hosting the NYSPHSAA Boys Basketball Championships for the past 35 years,” said Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA Executive Director. “I would like to congratulate Binghamton for being selected today by the membership of the association to host this prestigious tournament in 2017, 2018 and 2019. The bidding process utilized by the association is focused on providing all 11 Sections with the opportunity to host NYSPHSAA championships in a fair and transparent fashion.”

All games will be played at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena. Downtown hotels, restaurants and stores can expect to benefit from the high profile events.

The same committee announced Union-Endicott High School will host the state track and field championships beginning in 2017.
