Two Killed, Several Hospitalized in Norwich Car Crash

State Police are investigating a Norwich crash that left two dead and several injured on Thursday morning.

At approximately 7:19 a.m., Sidney and Norwich State Police responded to a Chenango County 911 report of a two-car collision on State Highway 8 in the Town of Norwich.

Authorities say Yae Yar, 43, of Utica, died on scene from internal injuries. Yar was traveling northbound in his 2009 Honda CRV. Upon entering the southbound lane while trying to pass a tractor trailer, his vehicle struck an approaching Subaru.

The Subaru was operated by Joanna Stanimer, 27, of West Edmeston. Stanimer was airlifted to Wilson Hospital with internal injuries. She is currently in critical condition.

The front seat passenger of Yar's vehicle, Me Me, 36, was taken to Tri Town Hospital in Sidney, but authorities say she died from internal injuries before arriving to the hospital.

Four other passengers from Yar's vehicle also were injured. This includes:
-May Thazin Moe, 5, taken to Wilson Hospital with internal injuries.
-Maung Mae, 21, of Vermont, taken to Bassett Hospital with head injuries.
-Hasen Ko, 20, of Vermont, taken to Wilson Hospital with a head injury.
-Ne Ya Sin, 20, of Vermont, taken to Wilson Hospital with a fractured leg.

Police say these passengers are in serious, but stable condition. They say the investigation is ongoing.
