Arrest Made as Result of Cortland County Hunting Accident

An investigation by The Criminal Investigation Division of the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department into a December 6th hunting accident has resulted in an arrest.

Michael J. Quail, 53, of Fish Hill Road, Marathon, New York was arrested at the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department today and handed Reckless Endangerment as well as Assault charges. This due to an incident that occurred near Route 221 and Fish Hill Road in the Town of Willet. A 24-year-old man was reportedly shot in the abdomen during the incident.

The arrest comes after Quail was re-interviewed by investigators. He was arraigned in the Town of Marathon Court, because the Willet Court was unavailable.

Quail was released on his own recognizance and is to appear in the Town of Willet Court on December 23rd.

What we know now is that the type of weapon used was a rifle. However the caliber of the weapon is not being released at this time.
