Libous Appeals Conviction

By Jason Weinstein.
Former State Senator Tom Libous has appealed his felony conviction for lying to the FBI.

Libous was sentenced on November 24th to six months house arrest and a $50,000 fine, as well as two years probation. Libous will have to wear an electronic monitoring device during his house arrest.

The prosecution recommended Libous not face jail time after it's own cancer expert determined Libous had about a year or less to live. Libous's defense filed the notice of appeal on Tuesday. However, the paperwork does not indicate a reason behind the appeal.

Libous was found guilty of lying to the FBI in connection to an effort to get his son, Matthew, a job at a politically-connected Westchester law firm. Matthew Libous is currently serving a six-month sentence for tax fraud.
