Police: Student Threatened to "Shoot Up" SUNY Oneonta

By Jason Weinstein.
A 20-year-old now former SUNY Oneonta student is under arrest after police say he made threats on social media to shoot up the school.

Brandon Negron is charged with making a terroristic threat, a felony, and aggravated harassment, a misdemeanor. The University Police launched an investigation Saturday evening after receiving reports of a threatening message posted briefly on Yik Yak.

University Police worked with Yik Yak to obtain the content of the post, which they say read, “I’m going to shoot up the school. Be prepared Oneonta.”

Police say a search of Negron's residence determined he didn't have a weapon. Police also say he acted alone. Negron was arraigned Monday morning in Oneonta City Court and released on bail. The school said late this afternoon that Negron is no longer a student at SUNY Oneonta.
