$15,000 Grant for BC Humane Society

By Jason Weinstein.
a $15,000 grant is making the holidays a bit brighter for our four-legged friends. The BC Humane Society in Binghamton will use the money to buy a new surgical table and equipment, flea medication, and dog toys.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, who has adopted a cat from the facility, secured the grant. The head of the Humane Society says further donations are welcome to care for the 79 animals, including 27 dogs at the Jackson Street location. And she has some tips if you're thinking of adopting.

"This is a long-term commitment. You don't just take a pet home and have it be automatically house-trained, able to use a litter box, or have it be cheap. Animals cost money. They need veterinary care, they need immunizations, they need to be fed. People need to know it's a long-term commitment," said Karen Matson, Executive Director of the BC Humane Society.

The Humane Society has high-priority items it needs for the animals. These include dog and cat food, bleach, postage stamps, and paper towels. It also accepts monetary donations as well.
