Broome County Public Library Holds "Food for Fines" Program

Posted:
If you have charges from overdue books, the Broome County Public Library is offering a way to reduce those fines while helping those in need.

Throughout the month of December, the library is holding its 4th annual "Food for Fines" program. For each non-perishable food item brought in, the library will take $1 off of charges. The items will go to CHOW, or the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse, to assist families in the community.

“People may not have the money, they forgot to bring their books back, or they can’t find them. And this is a way to clear out your account. You can still use the library and help out CHOW at the same time,” said Director of Broome County Public Library Lisa Wise.

Don't have any fines? Anyone is welcome to make a donation. Wise says two barrels of food are typically received through the program. For more information, contact the library at 778-6400.
