Thanksgiving Driving Crackdown Nets 14,000 Tickets

By Jason Weinstein.
Thousands of New York drivers were caught up in the state's Thanksgiving crackdown on impaired, distracted, and speeding driving.

New York issued 14,000 tickets between last Wednesday and Sunday. Nearly 6,000 were for speeding, 715 were for distracted driving, and there were 218 DWI arrests. All of those numbers were up from the 2014 Thanksgiving crackdown. This year's crackdown included more than 5,000 vehicles passing through checkpoints during the holiday weekend.
