$3.6 Million Restored to BC Transit

By Jason Weinstein.
$3.6 million in funding earmarked for BC Transit that was on the chopping block has been saved.

Congressman Richard Hanna announced Tuesday the House-Senate Conference Committee which is negotiating a six-year highway bill has preserved what's called the High Density State Funding Program. This program steers money toward seven Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states with high-density transit systems, including New York.

"We were really faced with some difficult cuts, potentially cutting services or passing increases along to the taxpayer, neither of which would have been good to the local ridership and particularly for the economy in general here in Broome County," said Broome County Commissioner of Transportation Greg Kilmer.

Had the money not been restored, BC Transit would have lost over $600,000 per year for the next six years.
