Area Residents Party To Support Young Adults With Cancer

Community members partied it up at the Binghamton Club tonight. This wasn't your average party...it was a special one aiming to support some young adults that struggle with cancer.

Attendees arrived to the event in black and white attire.

It was hosted by Sean's Standing Strong Memorial Fund, a non-profit organization focused on providing financial support for education and recreational activities for young fighter's of the illness.

"We created it cause we found a reason to help young adults between 18-24 that still wanted to go to college that might have to stop college cause of their treatment but maybe wanted to take on course... so we would provide a computer or a laptop or an iPad if they wanted to use it during treatment", said Beth Shumaker, President of the foundation.

The foundation's inspiration was Sean Shumaker, a young man who started his battle with cancer at 8-year-old and passed away when he was 21. His mother Beth founded the organization to keep her son's memory alive.

So far the foundation has assisted seven young adults who share similar stories to Sean.
