Students are trotting like a turkey and buzzing like a bee with thankfulness Wednesday in Vestal.

The African Road Elementary School hosted their first "Bee" Thankful Turkey Trot. The event helped promote physical health while raising funds to support state of the art teaching materials and after school programs.

Students in grades K-5 raised more than $3,000 in donations from friends and family to give back to their classrooms.

PTO Fundraising Chair, Dina Kalina said, "We can do a lot of things like selling things and selling chocolates and do those things but we thought it was really important that the children are involved in the actual fundraiser for the school. "

School Representatives said the "Bee" Thankful Turkey Trot builds from the school's education theme of "Bee Kind, Bee Respectful, Bee in Control".
