Mayor Launches Effort to Clean up Blighted Property

Today's demolition on Gaines Street in Binghamton was the first of eight properties to be demolished throughout the city, in an effort by the mayor to clean up blighted properties throughout the city.

The City's Board of Contract and Supply awarded LCP Group of Vestal a $172,000 contact to demolish these 8 properties, which were purchased and slated for demolition with little cost to the city taxpayers through smaller local funds and a grant provided by the federal government, specifically from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The Mayor also negotiated with Wells Fargo to donate two of the properties slated for demolition, with even the Mayor himself taking part, operating the excavator that brought the house at 12 Gaines Street down on Thursday.
