Senior Veterans Honored for Their Services

Wednesday afternoon, the Marine Corps League held ceremonies honoring veterans at Brookdale Senior Living centers in Vestal.

This included a flag folding ceremony.

And for one of these veterans, the day holds additional significance.

"I'm 97 years old today. I was born on the original Armistice Day in 1918," said Veteran Stanley Blumm.

Born on the day known as “the war to end all wars,” Blumm says he was honored to serve in both World War II and the Korean War as an Armed Forces volunteer.

A service Blumm, along with other veterans, devoted to the country they love. A service the country thanks them for.

"In our hearts we know what each one of us has gone through. The place and time that you've done it, doesn't matter, everyone has served. Knowing that, we say thank you for what you've done," said Marine Corps League Commandant Fred Kelley.

A day of thank you for a life of freedom.

"The service that all the veterans have provided is worthy of note every year," said Kelley.

And Blumm says every November 11th means more than just being another year older.

"It's a special day in American history and I happen to be born on that day," said Blumm.
