New World War II Memorial at First Ward Veterans Park
By Lindsay Raychel. A new monument which holds the same honor.
A new World War II Memorial was dedicated to Veterans Wednesday at First Ward Veterans Park in Binghamton. Last year, the 60 year old pool at the park which was originally built to honor the veterans was demolished. A plaque from the pool was saved and incorporated into the new monument which serves as remembrance.
"It's a great honor and tribute to those and really it's something so future generations don't forget about this and they can remember why they have the freedom they have." said City of Binghamton Commissioner of Parks and Recreation, William Barber.
Barber said the monument is an exact replica of the one that used to stand at the park except the new one is made of granite instead of concrete.
