Vestal Middle School Honors Veterans

On Tuesday afternoon, Vestal Middle School held an assembly thanking veterans for their services.

The auditorium was full as students gave speeches on loved ones that served. The school's chorus and orchestra performed patriotic music numbers.

And in a final gesture to show gratitude, students presented money they raised to benefit the Leatherstocking Honor Flight. The money raised will allow six veterans a free trip to see the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.

"Just saying thank you is one of the simple ways that we can tell them that we really appreciate what they did for our country," said 6th grader Lydia Corcoran.

"We were quite overwhelmed, even throughout the today, by the outpour of donations," said Instrumental Music Teacher Denise Lacey-Corcoran.

Students and faculty began raising money for the fundraiser on November 2nd.
