Area Residents "Sound Off" on The Common Core

Educational standards in New York State known as The Common Core have created some controversy.

Tonight at BU, area residents had the opportunity to sound off of this issue. An energetic crowd, including educators, discussed their ideas. One educator spoke with us about his concerns regarding The Common Core, a program that is designed to boost student achievement by standardizing curriculum throughout the state.

"I think the primary concern that people have is how quickly they were put in place and rushed to the extent that teachers didn't have adequate time to become as familiar with the common core standards as they would like to be, they're giving tests blindly, and weren't able to engage in good educational practices." says David Daniels, principal of Susquehanna Valley High School

In September, Governor Andrew Cuomo commissioned a task force in order to gain feedback on The Common Core.
