Joyce Mitchell Ordered To Pay $80,000 For Aid In NY Prison Escape
By Fox 40 News Staff. Joyce Mitchell the former prison employee who admitted to aiding in the escape of two convicted murderers in June will pay about $80,000 in restitution.
At a hearing Friday morning, Mitchell agreed to pay the fee and not appeal. Mitchell, who worked as a tailor shop instructor at Clinton Correctional Facility provided hacksaw blades and other tools to murderers Richard Matt and David Sweat.
Matt was shot dead in a wooded area about 30 miles away from the prison and Sweat was shot and captured two days later. Mitchell was sentenced to 2 to 7 years in prison for her role in the escape.
