Police Officers Discover Meth Lab in Town of Maine

An investigation led by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the discovery of a meth lab in the Town of Maine.

Police had been searching for David A. Hartman after a federal probation violation. After a several week search, their investigation took them to 144 Lewis St. in the Town of Maine where Hartman was apprehended after a brief chase and struggle with deputies. Others in the house, William Ward and Karrisa Klugh also had warrants and were detained.

While still searching the residence, Sgt. Thomas Williams entered a closed room in the basement and immediately observed a “one-pot” methamphetamine lab. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit task force responded to the scene along with the NYS CCSERT Team. The NYS CCSERT worked through the night to secure the methamphetamine lab and its components.

Additional charges for Hartman, Ward, and Klugh will follow upon completion of the investigation.
