By Jason Weinstein. Police say a man's theft of a $7 item leads to his arrest for stealing a car.
A Broome County Sheriff's deputy responded to the CVS on Upper Front Street in the Town of Chenango at four Tuesday morning to a report of a man stealing an auxiliary cord, then fleeing. The clerk was able to get a license plate and description of the vehicle.
A check of the car found it had been stolen in Syracuse. Deputies found the vehicle on Old Front Street in the Town of Dickinson. John Travers of Syracuse is charged with criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny. He is in Broome County Jail without bail.
